Overview of Projects Executed by Copenhagen Energy Partners and Consultancy Services Provided
Subsea BOP FEED Study
A Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study was conducted by CEP for an anonymous client in Norway on retrofitting a harsh-environment jack-up drilling rig with a subsea BOP and marine drilling riser. The study assessed all necessary modifications to the rig’s Blowout Preventer (BOP), BOP control system, riser tensioners, moonpool arrangements, and drill floor equipment. It confirmed the feasibility of the proposed modifications and outlined the project scope of work, timeline, and costs, supported by budgetary offers from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) which is required to make a Final Investment Decision (FID) on the project.
MPV Pre-FEED Study
A Pre-FEED study was conducted by CEP for an anonymous client in Norway on retrofitting a harsh-environment jack-up drilling rig into a multi-purpose vessel (MPV). The study assessed all necessary modifications to the drilling package and addressed lifetime extension, as well as Norwegian compliance aspects, including the Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) status of the drilling rig. It confirmed the feasibility of the proposed modifications and provided a detailed outline of the scope of work, timeline, and costs for a full-scale Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study, which is required to make a Final Investment Decision (FID) on the project.
Power-to-X Consultancy Services
On the FlagshipONE Power-to-X project, CEP provided consultancy services to Ørsted, including the outsourcing of two senior mechanical engineers to their project team. One CEP specialist led the mechanical discipline, while the second engineer supported the Asset Management team by reviewing maintenance procedures and adapting the plant design for seamless future operations.
The FlagshipONE project was concluded by Ørsted at the end of the FEED phase.
Drilling Rig Intake Scope for Brazil
CEP provided consultancy services to the client, with a senior compliance engineer from CEP managing the Brazil compliance scope for the intake of a drillship into Brazilian waters.
Leveraging previous successful experience, the engineer oversaw the process of securing all necessary approvals for offshore operations in Brazil.
Harsh Environment Jack-Up Drilling Rig Leg Repairs Project
CEP provided consultancy services for a harsh-environment drilling rig leg repair project, where a senior structural project engineer from CEP managed the overall scope of the leg repairs and supported the client’s project manager with various aspects of the rig’s dry dock operations.
Additionally, CEP supplied a FROSIO-certified paint inspector to ensure the quality and compliance of the paintwork carried out by third-party contractors.
Jack-Up Drilling Rig Helideck Replacement Project
Following an incident in the Port of Esbjerg, where a drifting vessel during a storm damaged the helideck on a CEP client’s jack-up drilling rig, CEP provided a senior structural project engineer to oversee the entire scope of the helideck replacement. The engineer managed the planning, design, and execution of the replacement, while also supporting the client’s project manager with additional aspects of the project to ensure efficient coordination and successful completion.
Installation of Managed Pressure Drilling System on a Harsh-Environment Jack-Up Drilling Rig
CEP provided Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) expertise and supported the client’s project team with all the engineering and approval aspects of integrating the MPD package on a harsh-environment drilling rig operating in Norway.
Additionally, CEP assigned a senior mechanical engineer to supervise the actual installation and onboard integration, ensuring proper execution of third-party-provided piping, structural, and electrical installations, as well as the integration of rental MPD equipment.
Shore Power as a Service: Feasibility Assessment
CEP conducted a feasibility study for its client to evaluate the potential and feasibility of the ‘shore power as a service’ concept, envisioned as a solution to mitigate emissions, noise, and vibrations from wind farm installation vessels docked at the quayside.
The study’s key deliverables included a preliminary project scope and design basis, a cost model for the shore power service, and an assessment of high-level risks and challenges.
Scope Execution during Drillship Special Periodic Survey (SPS)
CEP provided consultancy services to its client by assigning a senior mechanical engineer to manage multiple scopes as part of a Special Periodic Survey (SPS) for a drillship.
Electrical and Automation Assistance to Operation
CEP’s senior electrical and automation engineer provided continuous service to a CEP client over a one-year period, offering operational support for a jack-up drilling unit operating offshore Norway.
The support primarily focused on power-to-shore systems, fire and gas systems, power reduction systems, and other electrical and automation scopes.
Mechanical Engineering Assistance to Operation
CEP’s senior mechanical engineer provided continuous service to a CEP client over a two-year period, offering operational support for various offshore wind projects in SEA, the Americas, and Europe.
The support primarily focused on reviewing third-party designs and addressing various maintenance aspects related to wind farm operations.
Wintarization Scope for Direct Air Capture Unit
CEP conducted a review of the winterization package for a CO2 capture unit. The reviewed package features a state-of-the-art Direct Air Capture (DAC) solution developed by a CEP client, designed for installation in Arctic conditions where harsh ambient factors pose significant design and operational challenges.
To address these challenges, engineering teams from CEP and the client collaborated to integrate several innovative features into the design, ensuring the DAC unit operates efficiently in the demanding Arctic environment.
